General Information

Bionic engineering is the study of living systems with the intention of applying their principles to the design of engineering systems, and it is an interdisciplinary research area which integrates biology, materials science, mechanics, informatics, tribology, and other related subjects. In recent years, bionic engineering is developing very fast at the global wide, and many bionic scientific products have been designed and produced.

The 3rd International Conference of Bionic Engineering (ICBE'10), which is jointly organized by National Nature Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Education of China and Jilin University, will be held on September 14-16,2010 in Zhuhai, China. Extending from the successful 1st and 2nd International Conference of Bionic Engineering (ICBE'06 and ICBE'08), the ICBE'10 will bring together scholars and professionals in the academic field and industry from all over the world to share their research experience and to explore research collaboration in the areas of bionic engineering. Similar to all other good specific or comprehensive conferences related to bionic, ICBE'10 is an international forum for scientists and engineers, researchers and consultants, theoreticians and practitioners in this field, and it is believed that this conference will greatly promote the development of bionic engineering around the world.

 Call for papers

All submitted abstracts and papers should be written in English and describe original work. Simultaneous interpretations are not available. Authors are kindly welcomed to submit an abstract before March 31, 2010 for the initial review. Usually, an abstract should be restricted to 400-500 words, single-spaced and must emphasize the object, major results and conclusions. The authors of accepted presentations should submit two copies of their manuscript by email with Word (doc) and Acrobat (pdf) formats, respectively. Guidelines of the manuscript will be mailed to the authors with the acceptance letter, and also can be downloaded at the end of this page. All abstracts and papers should be submitted by email to icbe_2010@yahoo.com.cn (Please write “ICBE'10 paper” at the subject line).

Most of the accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference of Bionic Engineering, and some selected outstanding papers will be published in SCI/EI cited journals, such as Chinese Science Bulletin (SCI cited), Progress in Natural Science (SCI cited), Journal of Bionic Engineering (SCI and EI cited).

 Important Activities

The ceremony for establishment of the International Society of Bionic Engineering (ISBE) will be held during the 3rd International Conference of Bionic Engineering.

ISBE is launched by many scholars from fifteen countries, which are China, The United Kingdom, Germany, The United States of America, Russia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Austria, Romania, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Brazil. The Society is registered in P. R. China, monitored and directed by the registered department. The Secretariat of the Society is always located at Jilin University, Changchun, P. R. China.

The establishment of ISBE means the acknowledgement from the whole international scholars to the research level and status of China in bionic engineering. It is desirable for the subject of international bionic engineering to develop quickly and smoothly. It is a key action to give birth to new interdisciplinary subjects, enrich and develop the system of bionics.

 Invited speakers

Confirmed Invited Speakers:

1. Chris Rudd (Nottingham University, UK)
2. Dai Zhendong (Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China)

This will be updated once others are available.

 Conference Program

 Travel & Accommodation

From the Gongbei Port of Entry, Zhuhai is linked with Macau, which consists of the Macau Peninsula itself and the islands of Taipa and Coloane.

Macau may be firmly back in China's orbit, but the Portuguese patina on this Sino-Lusitanian Las Vegas makes it a most unusual Asian destination. It has always been overshadowed by its glitzy near-neighbour Hong Kong - which is precisely why it's so attractive.

Macau's dual cultural heritage is a boon for travellers, who can take their pick from traditional Chinese temples, a spectacular ruined cathedral, pastel villas, old forts and islands that once harboured pirates. A slew of musuems will tell you how it all came about.

Hong Kong is located on China's south coast, facing the Pearl River Estuary in the east, with an overall territory of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories, and around 230 offshore islands, of which the largest is Lantau Island. It borders the Shenzhen Economic Zone to the north over the Shenzhen River, and 60 km east of Macau across the South China Sea.

As a city of mixed Chinese and Western cultures, Hong Kong preserves its Chinese convention; meanwhile, bears a clear mark of British colonial influence. Lying on the coastal line of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong prevails in local practices; on the other hand, actively develops itself into a modern hi-tech metropolis. Hong Kong is also a colorful resort, featuring in unique culture heritages such as temples, villages, clan halls, and historic sites of colonial times. Outskirts and countryside are available for leisure and adventure. Local people are industrious, adaptive, creative, and high in education, making the city into a productive and dynamic one.

 Registration Guide

All participants and accompanying persons should register for the meeting and registration fee should be charged. The fee covers coffee breaks, reception, and cost of conference materials.

Delegate/Participant     $200
Accompanying Person or student     $100

All payments must be done in US dollars, and it should be charged On-Site at the time of check-in at the conference registration desk. Cash is most preferred, and some credit card payments are also available.

Note: Students should be registered provided sufficient evidence from the institutions establishing their identity as bonafide students.
